
Alice Marguerite Ruble age 90 of Greenville died Thursday October 19, 2006 at Spectrum Health United Memorial United Campus Greenville. She was born September 5, 1916 to Clarence and Orpha Bruce of South Bend, Indiana. Alice’s mother died when she was only 8 months old. A young father left with two babies, as Alice had a brother, in time they were adopted by Charles and Mattie Hennesey. Alice has a unique name – she was born Marguerite Eveline Bruce. Her adopted parents changed her name to Alice Marguerite Hennesey. Thus her name could read Alice Marguerite Eveline Bruce Hennesey. She married Rev. Alfred A. Ruble of Battle Creek, MI on October 1, 1938. They were married 58 years when he died January 13, 1997.
She is survived by her three sons and wives: Theodore and Montel Ruble of Gaylord, MI, James and Barbara Ruble of Ft. Wayne IN, Burton and Sonja of Greenville, one brother Louis Hennesey of St. Joseph MI , half-brother Douglas Bruce of Plymouth, IN, Two-half sisters, Joanne Carlson of Mishawake IN and Georgia of Kalamazoo, sister –in-law Grace Bruce of Mishawake, IN , Pat Hennesey of St. Joseph , Lucile Ruble of Belding and Ethel Tobias of Ravenna, 8 grandchildren: Todd and Jennifer, Sherrie and Gary Jones of IN John Ruble of Atlanta GA. Jennifer and Dave Johnson of Lowell, Mike Olmstead of Greenville, Carrie and Charley Woodword of Whitehall , 12 great grandchildren: Kacie and Haley Ruble, Loran and Rachel Jones, Nicole and Cameron Ruble , Michael, Brooklyn , Ashelee Olmstead, Chase and Opal Woodward, Zander Ruble and a number of nieces and nephews. She spent 38 years traveling circuits with her husband, giving all she had many times to carry on the church work as well as working at the hospital and carrying for her family . She gave a true example of a Christian Mother showing them love and Christian training.
Alice has always been active in the church and community. She spent 32 years in nursing where ever they lived. Nineteen years in the Greenville hospital. She helped to bring many babies in to the world, caring for sick children, tenderly and patiently caring for the sick and stood by many on their deathbeds. She was a favorite nurse of many and held in high esteem by her fellow workers. While caring for the shut ins it was said of her she was dependable as the sunrise.
After retirement she than became a gray-lady volunteer working the reception desk.
Of her church she served as Editor of the Conference Women’s Page for 11 years. Conference Secretary to Womens’ Missionary Society, President and Vice President of local Mission Circle , taught Sunday School classes for years , served as church secretary, Past President , Past treasurer and historian of Church Women United
and received the “Valient Woman of the Year” Award for her dedicated work . She also volunteered for the Blood Mobile, made layettes for the hospital and received an award for 21 years of dedication to the American Red Cross.
She had a Godly heritage from her ancestors who were evangelists and ministers.
The service of praise and thanksgiving to God for the life of Alice Ruble will be held on Monday October 23, 2006 at 11 AM from Hillcrest Free Methodist Church in Greenville with Pastor Byron Davey officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Greenville. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-5 PM at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville. Memorial contributions may be given to Hillcrest Free Methodist Church
