1940 - 2007
CUSHMAN - Carol Ann Cushman, our wife and mother, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning in her sleep after a 9 month illness. She was born on June 17, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan where she lived and started a family for 36 years before moving to Greenville in March 1976. She graduated from Frank Cody High School in 1958 having held the 1st chair soprano position her junior and senior years in choir. After high school, she sang soprano for the Rackham Choir, an extension of the University of Michigan and the official choir of the Detroit Symphony. While in Detroit she worked part time as a florist and that skill and creativity passed on to Greenville where she worked part time when florists needed help. She later worked at United Memorial Hospital and retired in 1992 after about 10 years as a Pharmacy Technician. After retiring, she volunteered as a reading tutor at Baldwin Heights elementary and for the local Democratic Party. She also was a member of Business and Professional Women (BPW) for about 20 years where she held the position as local president, District 7 Director, and a host of other State level committee and chair positions. She was a devoted mother active in Choir Boosters, sporting events, and all our educational needs and activities. Family and holiday traditions were very important and they imparted special meaning. For the past 17 years, her greatest joy was being a grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Daniel A. Cushman, eldest son Christopher Cushman of Toronto, Canada; son Peter Cushman and wife Tina of Greenville; daughter Marie Garza and husband Alberto of Grand Rapids; and son Matthew Cushman and wife Nikki of Grand Rapids; and seven grandchildren, Nicole, Danielle and Kaysie Cushman of Greenville, Isabelle and Jonathan Garza of Grand Rapids and Megan and Katherine Cushman of Grand Rapids. Visitation hours will be on Sunday, February 25, 2007 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at Hurst Funeral Home at 1801 W. Washington in Greenville. The funeral service will also be held there Monday at 11:00 am with her nephew Rev. Theodore Cook officiating. A luncheon will follow at Klackle Orchards. Donations in memory of Carol can be made to St. Michaels Lutheran Church in Belknap, Michigan, for their stained glass restoration.
