Kenneth J. Johnson age 82 of Gowen died Wednesday March 7, 2007 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus Grand Rapids MI. He was born in Inverness Township, Cheboygan MI on July 14, 1924 the only child of Kenneth J. and Marvel Richardson Johnson.
Ken was a veteran of WW II serving in the US Army Air Force. He was a member of the American Legion Ray I. Booth Post # 101 of Greenville, the VFW Lester J. Sitts Post 5065 of Sheridan and a loved member of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Coral. He was the former owner of Ken Johnson Insurance and Real Estate for many years in Greenville. He loved his church family and was known there as the gum man. He also loved his German Shepherd dogs, the outdoors and his garden.
On February 10, 1972 in Greenville he married Joyce A. Resler Higginson. She survives along with his sons; Dr. Ron and Linda Johnson of Shawnee, Kansas and Dr. Kevin and Debbie Johnson of Lansing, Joyce’s children; James A. and Jan Higginson of Muskegon, Ronald G. and Ruth Higginson of Fenwick , Jonathan Higginson of Grand Rapids, Rebecca and Doug Canter of Niles, Joyce’s sisters; Maxine and Norm Helmer of Lake City and Leona and Ben Mumah of Stanwood.
Ken was preceded in death by his step-son Roger Higginson on June 15, 2003 and his brother-in-law Donald Resler.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday March 10, 2007 at 2 PM (PLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGE) from Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville with Rev. Venus Arnold officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Greenville. No visitation will be held. In Lieu Of Flowers, Contributions may be given to Emmanuel Baptist Church Coral or Camp Barakel-Fairview.
