Silas P. “Flip” Thompson age 75 of Spencer Township, Gowen died at home Monday evening April 2, 2007. He was born in Cadillac on May 3, 1931 the son of Silas A. and Mary Martin Thompson. On January 21, 1950 in Greenville he married Nancy L. Houck at the Congregational Parsonage by Rev. Dr. St. Claire Parsons.
Flip was employed by General Motors in Grand Rapids retiring after 30 years service.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #101 of Greenville, the Greenville Moose Lodge and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles of Greenville. He was a race car driver for 15 years at the Berlin Raceway and he enjoyed NASCAR racing.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Nancy of Gowen, his daughters and son, Mary Lou Densmore of Gowen, Phillip E. Thompson of Grand Rapids and Carla and John Scharaswak of Stanton, his grandchildren, Marie and Larry Graham, Howard and Wanda Densmore, Gayle and Christine Densmore, Adam Scharaswak , Abraham Scharaswak, several great grandchildren, his sisters-in-law, Lucille Thompson and Ilah Thompson both of Cadillac and his brother-in-law , Charles and Beverly Houck of Rockford and many nieces and nephews.
His parents and 13 brothers and 3 sisters have preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday April 5, 2007 at 2 PM from Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville with Rev. Paul E. Dickson of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Spencer Mills Cemetery, Gowen. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 7-9 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Michigan.
