Charlie was my first cousin. His mother, Jessie (Hodges) Willmore, and my father, Leon Eldred Hodges, were siblings. Charlie was always a special person to me, not only because of his wonderful personality, but also because he saved my life from drowning, over 50 years ago. I always reminded him about that fact every time I saw him, but he always flashed that famous smile and characteristically tried to shrug it off as nothing. But it was a life-altering event for me, and I made sure he knew it. Charlie was one of those special people who do not come along but a few times in a lifetime. I shall never forget him as long as I live.

Charlie was certainly a great guy and a true gentleman. Always a smile on his face and a true pleasure to be with. Great memories of Charlie will be with us forever.

Dear Willmore Family, Mr. Charlie Willmore and my father, Maurice Lacy, were close friends from childhood until my father passed in 1969. It has been nearly that long since I saw Charlie or Doris. He was quite a guy, and memories of him have held fast in my mind and heart. I am sorry for your loss. Charlie will be remembered. Be Well, Curtis Lacy
