Herbert C. Davis age 87 of Greenville died Monday July 30, 2007 in Greenville. He was born in Huntington, Indiana on June 24, 1920 the son of Harley Ray and Alta Ruth Line Davis.
Herb was a veteran of the US Army Air Force in WW II serving as an aerial Engineer in India and China from 1942 to 1945 and receiving the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon the Victory Medal. His service career took him around the world.
He married Lois Grueb in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ft. Wayne, Indiana on August 30, 1946. They moved to Michigan in 1953. He joined the operating engineers in July of 1959 and retired in 1982. His work took him all over the State of Michigan.
He loved to care for his lawn, his flowers, the out of doors and for years had large gardens. He fished Lake Michigan and loved his hunting times. He developed the land for his home with his heavy equipment operating skills and enjoyed keeping it mowed and trimmed.
From 1986 until 2006 he and Lois wintered in Bull Head City, Arizona.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, a life member of the Greenville Masonic Lodge, a 32nd degree Mason, member of the Scottish Rite and the Shrine.
Surviving are his wife Lois Davis of Greenville, his sister Ruth Wood of Southport, Florida, sister-in-law Edna Davis of Newalla, Oklahoma, his nephew Jeff and Barb Davis of Las Vegas, NV and several nieces, nephews and cousins in Ohio.
His parents, brothers Russell and James and sister Helen preceded him in death, as did his wife’s parents, Herman and Cascilda Grueb.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday August 2, 2007 at 11 AM from Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville with Rev. Clayton Bates of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 6:30 to 9 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul Building Fund or the Masonic Home at Alma.
