Don was a very interesting chap!! He had an insatiable thirst for knowledge. Somewhat odd for a Tech Toot!! When I first started volunteering at the hospital he could be found intently absorbing the medical dictionary when he wasn't busy. And he loved reading magazines with historical articles, as well as flying magazines. He loved to talk about his wonderful family and extended family, and obviously loved them all very much. Some of his favorite topics: Sitting on the deck with Jo, having a cup of coffee, watching the birds, cats and wildlife in their back yard. Going to a football game with his family, watching his grandson match talents with other teams. And, especially, those well-planned trips to fish the rivers with his son, son-in-law, or other friends. He really relished those times when he could outsmart a wise old brown trout....fight it to the net...unhook it and watch it swim back under the bank to fight another day!! I wouldn't be surprised if he is now either flying back to a remote village in Alaska to offer his medical talents as a doctor, or he is a brown trout peeking out from under the bank on the Manistee River, ready to humble another novice fly fisherman with a quick battle and broken line, generating years of fish stories for other grandchildren. Or maybe he and his brother are helping investigate some foreign service operation in another country. He made everything he did a fun event for all involved, even working at the hospital. He will be missed by all who had the good fortune to meet and talk with him.

Don,
I wish to take this opportunity to thank you for the time we spent on the water while you taught me how to fly fish. Each time I pick up my fly rod I will think of you. You were a good man.
Gods Blessings to you and your family.

We are very sorry to hear of Don's passing. We enjoyed our times with both Jo and Don over the years. We'll never forget the bridge trips to Chicago, Ypsilanti, and Grand Rapids. We especially enjoyed Don's dry sense of humor and straightforwardness.
