
Harry G. (Poppy) Johnson age 90 of Santee, California passed away quietly and peacefully at Stanford Court Nursing Center in Santee on Monday evening January 21, 2008.
Poppy, a frequent visitor to Greenville over the past 20 years, has many friends in the area.
Born on September 27,1917 and raised in New Jersey, he has lived the last fourteen years in Santee. He was the father of The Rev. Dr. Harry R. Johnson, Pastor Emeritus of First United Methodist Church, Greenville.
A World War II veteran, he served as a medic in the US Army. He was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine in 1993. He is survived by his son Dr. Harry and Judy Johnson of Santee; a daughter Sharon McNamara of Catasanqua, PA and three other sons; Richard and Jacques of Toms River, NJ, Gary and Maria of Orlando FL and Ronald also of Catasanqua Pa, Two grandchildren still live in Greenville: Kim Johnson and Jilan Hemmingsen. Also surviving are 12 other grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Other survivors include: a special sister, Ann Moran of Santee with whom he made his home the last 14 years; Betty of Little Falls, NJ, brothers William and Mary of West Patterson NJ and George and Helen of Florida.
Private services will take place at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, California.
