
Leona I. Dyer age 91 of Greenville died Tuesday January 22, 2008 at Spectrum Health United Memorial Hospital Greenville. She was born at the family farm in Montcalm Township, Greenville on March 19,1916 the daughter of John W. and Elizabeth Sass Swartz. Leona was a rural school teacher in the 1930s and after marriage to Herbert J. Dyer in McBrides on June 12, 1937 she became a homemaker and a wonderful mother. She was a member of Turk Lake United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School, was a 4-H Leader, a life member of the Princess Chapter # 120 of Order of the Eastern Star having served as secretary for 25 years and Past Worthy Matron and now is a member of the Crescent Chapter OES of Stanton and a Red Cross volunteer.
Her husband Herbert preceded her in death on December 3,1956 and she also was preceded by her brothers Emerson, Wesley, Norman and Howard Swartz and in 2007 her daughter Judith Lee Sheehan.
She is survived by her son Joseph and Deborah Dyer of Gowen, her grandchildren; Richard Sheehan of Missouri, Wayne and Debbie Sheehan and Michelle Sheehan all of Tennessee, Todd and Julie Dyer of Almont, MI and Tammy and Keith Riesberg of Sheridan, great grandchildren; Cassidy, Lindsey, Samantha and Thomas, her sister-in-law Ida Dawson of Flint and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday January 25, 2008 at 1 PM from Turk Lake United Methodist Church with Rev. Kay Welsch officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 PM at Hurst Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Spring at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association.
