I often think about hi, he was a great teacher. I moved to Central Montcalmmy freshman year. Shortly after was diagnosed with kidney failure. I had to have a transplant. During that time I missed almost a year of school. Mr.Ripplinger came to my house and helped me keep up with my school work. When I was able to go back to school he helped me carry my look from class to class because I couldn't lift them. He also set a extra class hour so I could catch up on my work and make sure I had all my credits. If it was not for this outstanding teacher I would not have my high school diploma. I only wish I had a chance to let him know this.

I am so sorry for your loss! Mr. Ripplinger was one of the first teachers to make me think and not just memorize facts. He was challenging and funny and one of my favorite teachers. I was in his class during his first year at CMHS, and he was an excellent teacher from the beginning. He captured our attention by imitating Steve Martin or asking thought provoking questions. When I think of the type of teacher I want to be, I think of him.

Rip was my government teacher and yearbook advisor. We were lucky to have him, as he really cared that we learned something in his classes. Unafraid to teach to points peripheral to the lecture at hand, he would engage in back and forth debate with students, then diffuse discussions that got too heated with a rub of the beard and a "see me after class . . . see me after class." A good balance!
Thanks to Rip for all the effort he gave us over the years at CMHS. Sincere condolences and best regards to his family.

Dale: Steve was a very caring person and Marv thought highly of Steve as a teacher colleague and friend at Central Montcalm High School. I can remember when Steve was still single and would ride his bike to our house. He was very happy, Dale, when he met you. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

My favorite memory of Mr. Ripplinger was when I was a sophomore, we were in class one day and he was lecturing, and people weren't exactly giving him their undivided attention. All of a sudden, with no warning, he was standing on his desk. He didn't make a big scene of it. He was just...suddenly there...and he said, "Anyone seen Dead Poet's Society?" I raised my hand, and he said, "She gets it," and got back down, and went on with his lecture like nothing had happened.
I'm really going to miss him. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

Steve was both my teacher and colleague here at CMHS. I truly believe that every teacher is a sum of all of the teachers he or she learned from over the years. I know there are things that I do and strive to be in my classroom that are a direct result of being Steves student. I am missing him today and know that I will always be affected by my time in his classroom and as his colleague.

I just wanted to offer condolences to all of Mr. Ripplinger's family. I was a student of his when I went to CMHS, although I graduated in 2006 I kept updated on his status and even prayed for his recovery. Out of all 4 years that I attended that high school, the things that probably stick with me the most are the things I learned in his classes. He was a great teacher and mentor and had a great sense of humor. I just want the whole family to know I am thinking of all of you.

Dale and family,
My sister called me Friday to tell me your sad news. Steve and my dad, Denny Diehl, taught together in the social studies department at CMHS for many many years. I also had Mr. Ripplinger for one class my senior year.
If there is one thing you can take heart in, know that the CMHS "family" keeps you in their thoughts and prayers. Kristi said that there were many familiar faces at visitation yesterday. I wish I could have added my own.

I am truly sorry to hear that "Ripp" has passed away...he will be missed. With me being a U of M fan, I could always count on a little razzing from him, with his MSU background. He was a coach, a teacher and a friend.

I was sorry to hear of Ripp's passing. He always had a smile and a positive outlook on life. I am proud to have had him as a coach, teacher and friend. I'll always remember the fun we had putting together the 82 yearbook, aptly titled, the "CM Lampoon." He was one of a kind and will sadly be missed.

Ripp touched my life in every possible way - as my coach, yearbook advisor, government teacher, and as a friend. He was a great teacher and most importantly a great role model for his students. My life and career have been indelibly shaped by his positive influence. He will truly be missed on this earth, but the angels in heaven are rejoicing to have such a wonderful man among them.

Dale,
I worked with Steve at Central Montcalm for 12 years. He was always one of my favorite people to be around. I know that my son, Josh, (graduated 1993) thought the world of Steve. Mr. Riplinger's name is always the one Josh brings up when mentioning his favorite teacher. I saw Steve a couple of years ago at a State Social Studies Conferences in GR. He had a big smile and hug for me as we spent a few moments reminiscing about my years at CM. I know he will be greatly missed by that high school. I am so fortunate to have had the honor to work with Rip and call him my friend. I will keep you in my prayers. Josh send his condolences as well.
