1931 - 2009
 Barbara Peterson, 78, of Greenville, passed away Tuesday morning, December 15, 2009 at Kelsey Campus of Spectrum United Memorial Hospital. She was born January 14, 1931 in Lennon, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Joseph and Erma Vargo; her husband, Earl Peterson; two sisters: Elizabeth and Erma; and six brothers: Julius, Joseph, James, Steve, William and Alex. Surviving are her sister, Helen Nerychel; her brother, John Vargo; her sister-in-law, Wilma Painter; her brother-in-law, Bob Lewis; and many nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed the companionship of her dear friend Irene Barres, especially during her chemotherapy. Barbara played and sang in a country band with her husband, Earl, before his death in 1971. Their family owned and operated WPLB AM/FM Radio Station in Greenville. After his death, she worked at Christensens Nursing Home (which later became Metron of Greenville) for 30 years. Barbara was a talented musician who sang, played guitar, piano, organ, and accordion. She enjoyed gardening, walking, painting, and playing with her cats. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends, and never missed a family celebration or birthday. Funeral services including committal will be held Saturday, December 19th at 11:00 a.m. at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery, Breckenridge. Visitation will be Friday evening, December 18th from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, or to a hospice or charity of your choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Barb was an important part of our family. She never missed a birthday party or Christmas gathering. She was kind, generous and always upbeat! You have always been there for all of us. We love you and you will be greatly missed...
