1926 - 2009

Marilyn Jean Christensen

Marilyn Jean Christensen of Mesa Arizona, formerly of Greenville Michigan passed away December 20, 2009 at the wonderful age of 83.

Marilyn was born in Greenville September 9, 1926 and was the daughter of Dewey and Cora Hansen. She was the second oldest of the five Hansen sisters.

Marilyn went to Grand View College and graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Teaching. She earned her Masters degree later from Oakland University in Rochester in Guidance and counseling.

In July of 1950 she married her soul-mate, the love of her life, Max Christensen. They had two daughters Cindy and Jill and lived in Rochester until Max retired from Ford Motor Company. Marilyn and Max had two places they called home, a place in Greenville and a place in Mesa Arizona where they split their retirement years going to and from visiting the girls, grandkids and in Michigan the sisters and cousins. In January of 2008 Marilyn lost her beloved Max. She missed him so terribly in the next years.

Marilyn is survived by her two daughters, Cindy Boes and Jill Cliburn & husband Jim of Gilbert Arizona. She has six adored and loved grandchildren, John Boes, Jennifer Boes, Holly Boes, Carolyn Boes, Elizabeth Cliburn and Max Cliburn and a Great grandchild Kaleb Zyc all of Gilbert Arizona. She is survived also by sisters Alice Allen and Husband Bob of Greenville, Nata Lou Hansen and husband Lee of Trufant, Grace Hemstreet and husband Bob of El Cajon, California and Laura Roberts of Raymore, Missouri.

Marilyn was known to all her Grandchildren as Nanny. We all comfort in the fact that she is in Heaven, celebrating the reunion of Nanny and Bampa as we knew Mom and Dad. She is in our Heavenly Fathers arms now, rest peacefully, we love you, we will miss your smile and your laugh.

Memorial services will be held on Monday January 18,2010 at 1 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Greenville. Burial will be in Little Denmark Cemetery, Gowen. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church 100 E. Coffren St. Greenville MI 48838.

Dear Family of Marilyn... Her smile was warm and kind. Her words gentle. She will be missed by those who knew her.

It is clear Marilyn lived a successful life not only by her own accomplishments in education, counseling and the guidances of others and a devoted lifelong love and marriage but also in her daughters & the love and compassion they were taught to keep in their hearts. Marilyns life will be celebrated through the lives of her children and grandchildren. I would like to extend my sympathy to Jill and the family. Hayley

Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Max or Marilyn, I knew of them to be wonderful people as reflected in their daughter Jill and my beautiful niece Elizabeth and wonderful nephew Max. My deepest condolences. Becky

As a youngster, I stayed with Aunt Marilyn and family for a week almost every summer. What a great time she and I had! She always remembered that when we went out for our daily walk, I offered to always pull her up the hill. I remember helping Marilyn in the garden and crawling into Cindy's bed after she left for work because it had an electric blanket. I am so happy that she is back with Uncle Max, and I know now, that I have a guardian angel watching over me. What a great lady! I will never stop missing her.

Nata Lou and family: I did not know your sister. But, you were neighbors of my Aunt Christal & Uncle Wally for years, and I am sure they would have wanted our family to extend our sympathy to you at this time. You are in our prayers.
