Lawrence Monroe Walker Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1946 - 2010

WALKER- Lawrence "Larry" Monroe Walker, 63, was received by the Lord on Easter Sunday with friends and family by his side after complications of a heart attack. Larry began his life on April 29, 1946. He was the eldest of 5 children born to Edward and Donna Walker. Larry grew up on a farm in Stanton, Michigan. He earned his high school diploma from Central Montcalm High School in 1964. He served in the US Army where he was honorably discharged. Larry married Kathy Edgecombe in 1986. They were married for 13 years and resided in Greenville, MI. They were the proud parents of a daughter, Jessica Kay Walker. Larry was a friend to all and a stranger to none. He made friends wherever he went and always had a story to share to anyone with a listening ear. A simple trip to the store was always a lengthy process because he always knew someone everywhere he went. He enjoyed the outdoors and made frequent trips to Fish Lake during the year. He was an avid John Deere enthusiast and was proud of his very extensive collection of tractors and memorabilia. Larry had a big heart and touched many lives. He was very loved in life and the memories he leaves behind will be cherished by many. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Edward D. and Donna M.Walker and his brothers, Albert Curtis Walker and two infant boys. He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory his daughter, Jessica Kay Walker; sister, Judy and Dwight Johnston of Stanton; brother-in-law, Donald Keesler; nieces and nephews, Albert Johnston, Valerie Voight, Heather and Andy Wilson, Vanessa and Steve Wasko, Jason and Karen Keesler, Robert and Brandie Keesler, Kaitlynn Keesler, Angie and Matt Stilson, Mike and Susan Cornell, Chase and Cindy Cornell, and Melissa and Wyatt Clark; great-nieces and great-nephews, Andrew, Thomas, Gage, Raegan, Delaney, James, Luke, Savannah and Oliver; special neighbors, Alice and Marlene Huey and Robin, Steve, Aaron, Corey and Kellen Kleck; and many, many wonderful friends. A memorial service celebrating Larry's life will be held Thursday, April 8th at 1:00 pm at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with Pastor Mark Adams officiating. The family will be receiving visitors from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at the funeral home prior to the service.

Jessica, I am so sorry for your loss. Whenever I would run into your dad in town, he would speak so lovingly about you and voice how proud he was of you. He was so nice to everyone and truly will be missed.

In mid February Larry traveled to Battle Creek to attend my brother's funeral (Jerry Greenhoe). They were classmates and who knew that soon they would be soul-mates. We both have great memories of Larry from high school and more recently from talking with him at Jerry's funeral. We had all been together at a class reunion last summer. How sad when God calls friends home. May God give you comfort in your loss.

He was the best bus driver our children had, we appreciate all the kindness he showed to our girls transporting them to school. What a wonderful dad you shared with alot of children. Jessica, I know that Larrt had some really rough time a few when he wasn't thinking to clearly, I am glad that by being on those trips I was always able to remind him of his love for you and your love for him. I will always remember the bus trips Larry and I took together, Oh how he loved to pick on me, exspecially when you weren't there to pick on!! Putting a sign on your Back "Free to a good home" "For sale 5 cents" I could see as you were getting older it was starting to be a bit much!! But Larry being Larry you went along with his humor after all he was Dad and you loved him and hunored him. You will always love your dad. Oh How proud of you he was at High School Graduation. We ran into each other last Friday night. As always he was proud as a peacock, you just a little more time and you would be a full RN. He will always be with you the love you shared will carry you thru the tough times ahead. Know to Jessica I think of you often and will continue to pray for healing and happy memories. Call or email me any timr you just need to talk.
