1960 - 2010

Krista WilcoxOn Wednesday evening, April 21, 2010, Krista Gail Wilcox, 50, of Sheridan, passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 18, 1960 in Alma, the daughter of Lawrence Shorty and Marjorie (Waldron) Hansen. Krista met Patrick J. Wilcox in their college band class and they were married on August 8, 1981 in Stanton. She graduated from Central Michigan University in 1984 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration/Merchandising and Retail Sales. During her early working years, Krista was a bookkeeper and secretary to a psychologist at Montcalm Area Intermediate School District. In recent years she was an employment specialist at Michigan Works! of Gratiot/Isabella RESD. Through her compassion for others, Krista touched the lives of hundreds of people and provided hope for their future success. She was an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Sheridan where she served on the diaconate committee, sang in the church choir, and assisted with youth group activities. Krista loved music and participated in Montcalm Community College Jazz Band and their Alumni & Friends Choir. Her interests also included: camping, traveling, going to the movies, reading, shopping, boating, skiing, and mushrooming. Krista is survived by her loving husband, Pat; her son and daughter-in-law Benjamin and Hannah of Brighton and her daughter, Katelyn of Sheridan. She is also survived by her parents Lawrence Shorty and Marjorie (Waldron) Hansen of Stanton; her in-laws Roger and Joyce Wilcox of Sheridan; her brother and sister-in-law Allen and Sandy Hansen of Petoskey and their children Eric and Kevin Hansen; her sister and brother-in-law Debra and Jim Kolar of Elk Rapids and their daughter Haley Kolar; her sister and brother-in-law Jenean and Dean Whitmore of Carson City and their children Adam and wife Melodie, Mikaela, and Spencer Whitmore; her brother-in-law Mike Wilcox and Geraldine Rogers and her daughter Jessica of Greenville; her brother-in-law Andy Wilcox of McBride, his children Bailey and Brett Wilcox of Sidney, his wife Kristi and their son Stanley, also of McBride; as well as numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, and many dear, dear friends. Krista will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 24 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hurst Funeral Home, 1801 W. Washington Street, Greenville. The funeral will be held on Sunday, April 25 at 2:00 p.m. at First Congregational UCC, 113 S. Main Street, Sheridan. Krista's pastor, the Rev. Philip Van Dop, will serve as officiant. Private interment will be in McBride Cemetery. Donations may be given to First Congregational United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, or to Look Good...Feel Better, 129 Jefferson St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503, where funds will be allocated to Look Good&Feel Better, a program which helps individuals with cancer look good, improve their self-esteem, and manage their treatment with greater confidence.

Pat and family, I have read through the messages on this website and recognized many names. There seems to be a consistent message - Krista was joyous, which she was...plus she had a great smile and a twinkle in her eye. I spent many hours with Krista during our high school years...band, class, time after school and on weekends. We hung out together and with other friends. Krista was full of laughter, plus direct and honest with her thoughts and feelings. I had the opportunity to be in Krista and Pat's wedding. One thing I have never, ever forgotten...seeing the way Krista and Pat looked at each other the first time they saw each other on their wedding day. Again the joy was apparent as well as the smile and twinkle...plus the faith, pure Christian faith. Krista was devoted to her faith, her family and anyone who was part of her life. Pat and family, I am sorry we didn't keep in touch...please keep your memories close at heart. Shelly Walldorff

I am so very sorry to hear of Krista's passing. We went to school together and she brought joy into every room she walked in. I am proud to say, that Krista was my friend and we always had lots of laughs together. It's times like this that you regret letting life get in the way and not remain in touch with our friends. May Gods love and presence surround your family during this very difficult time. In Christ's Love, Rechelle Richardson

We have been praying for our neighbors (Krista and her family) for quite some time. Krista was a generous person, last year she gave me extra irises from her garden to plan and we will think of her when they come up for years to come. We are so sad to hear of your loss and will continue to raise her family up in prayer.

Krista was a wonderful lady, that I had the pleasure to work with from time to time. I always looked forward to the days that Krista would be at our facility. Even after I was laid-off, whenever I saw Krista she wanted to know how my family and I were doing. She was such a sweet, caring and compassionate woman, that was a GREAT asset to our community. She will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with her entire family during this very tough time. May god wrap his arms around you and comfort you.

I'll always remember Krista as the sweet girl at church who was soft spoken and never had a bad thing to say about anyone. I know she will be missed by her family, friends and everyone whose life she touched but I also know she is safe in the Lord's care. We'll see her one of these days, again!

I am so sorry to hear of Krista's passing. I knew Krista as the beloved younger sister of Jenean. Simply the mention of Krista's name would cause Jenean's eyes to sparkle with love and adoration. Pretty special just to witness. My condolences to Krista's entire network of family and friends.

To Krista's family: Krista was our caseworker when Electrolux closed. Her encouragement and wonderful sense of humor were such a blessing to us. We are very sorry to hear of her passing and will always remember her fondly. She touched our lives in a very positive way as we're sure she touched many others. Again, we are so sorry and you have our sympathies. Godspeed, Krista. Bless you.

Know that your family is in our thoughts and prayers at this time of loss. We share your pain. Hold Us Up Lord Lord, we know Youre always busy, For Youve many things to do, But when sorrow overcomes us, Well, we need to talk to You, For weve lost Someone precious, And theyre with You there above, And its someone that we needed, And its someone That we love. We are feeling lost and all alone, And though we do believe, We need You, Lord, to hold us up, To help us while we grieve. Please give us strength and courage, Lord, To bear what we must bear, And nudge us when our faith is weak To remind us You are there. Give us hope for our tomorrows, Tell us life will still go on, Show us, Lord, that all this darkness Will be followed by the dawn. You have led us through so many things, Youve pulled us through before, Hold us up, Lord, till were through this And we are strong once more. By Linda Elrod

Wilcox Family- we are so sorry to learn of Krista's death. She was an inspiration because of her smile, friendliness and enthusiasm. She will be sorely missed. Although Krista's lifetime was much too short, you must know how fortunate you are to have had such a positive role model and such a caring, involved Wife & Parent. Many family members never experience that kind of love. Our best to you both and to your family as a whole and please know that our thoughts are with you as is our deepest sympathy. Sincerely, Bob & Lori Reed
