Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the family memebers. My son and I had the pleasure of meeting Don and his wife about 9 years ago. My son spend quite a few hours with Don talking ham talk. My son had just started out with his license. It was such a pleasure hearing a 12 year old having a wonderful time with Don. He was a great mentor for Andrew. I know that Andrew enjoyed his time there. Don made a great impression on him and the will be treasured for all time. He will be missed by all.

I first met Grandpa 10 years ago and from the first moment I walked into the house I felt welcome. Even though he wasn't my grandpa I loved him like he was. Whenever I was able to visit he would have a small project for me to work on, a book to look at or he would ask me to take a look at the computer. I wish I had more time to hear more of his stories. He really enjoyed giving me a hard time and teasing me. I will miss that when I visit now. I know you are at peace and without pain now. You will be greatly missed.

I've chatted with K8GOU, "the Guru from Gowen" for many years ~ also had the pleasure to drop-in several times. I'll miss the telephone calls from Van with the opening statement ~ "got a minute? I have a question" ... Rest-in-Peace, dear friend.

My best wish's to Florence and the family.
Van was a wonderful person and the number one Ham radio operator in my book!
I was blessed to know him and even more blessed to be able to speak with him in the hospital via phone a bit over a week ago.
Van was a giver to others. In the past several years he gave his support to another brother Ham, Warren who was under the weather, even though Van was not in tip-top
feeling his self.
The first time I met Van face to face was at the Cadillac Swap and he made me feel like a long time buddy....we hit it off that day as he was a Phone Man and I was an
Electric Power Company Man...we spoke of poles, transmission lines, dealing with storms and there problems and of course keeping a smile when dealing with an irrate customer, never spoke Radio that day. Gad his memory will forever be with me.
I am so sure he is with God in heaven and in QSO with the Lords hams!

Dear Florence and family: So sorry to learn of "our loss". "Van" was a wonderful person, loved the Lord, and is now home with him. He will be missed by many and we pray that the Lord will grant you His Peace during this most difficult time. He is also a great loss to our amateur radio community where he has hundreds of friends mourning his loss as well. Blessings and God's comfort to each and every one of you.
Love,
Jim, (W8JFB), & Stella Bishop

What a wonderful man and he is leaving behind a very wonderful family. I started talking to Van back in the late 60's and we became good friends when eh moved to the Montcalm County area. I have so many good things I can say about him but my hands would wear out first.
He was for a good time and a joke. He also was very curious as to why things worked, not that they did so well but why!
He was my right hand man your a long, long time. If I was involved in a Lions Club project he was very interested. He was first to open up his wallet.
When I became involved at Camp Tuhsmeheta he was right behind me pushing me along.
Several months ago I told him I was collecting moneys for the Lion mints and he sent his Daughter Linda over to our house from Gowen to buy a roll of mints.
I know it had to happen but if he could of had better health and lived for another 50 years.
My prayers are with the whole VanSickle Family.
