1927 - 2010
Maxine L. Stapish Bacon, 83, of Greenville, went to be with her Lord on August 1, 2010. She was born June 15, 1927 in Flint, MI. She married Richard Bacon on April 12, 1947 in Detriot. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Richard (Dick) E. Bacon Sr., her parents Carl Stapish and Myrtle Livingston, her brother Robert Stapish, granddaughter Demetria Wieland, and great granddaughter Graeleye Nicholas.
Surviving are her children, James R. Sr. and Sheryl Bacon, Holt Summit, MO, Richard E. Bacon Jr.,Saranac, MI, Linda Bacon-Kendall, Ionia, MI, John F. Sr. and Roxene Bacon, Summerville, SC, William H. Bacon, Jackson, MI, Margaret and Darrell Johnston, Havelock, NC, Janet (Bacon-Dixon) and Michael Priddy, Silsbee, TX, Jerry W. and Sandra Bacon, Grand Rapids, MI, Larry C. Bacon, Greenville, MI, Kathleen and John Chapman, South Lyon, MI. Also surviving are one sister Carolyn and Stanley Adamiak, Timmonium, MD, grandchildren, James Jr. (Sandy), Jason, Joshua, Anthony, Robert, John Jr., and Richard T. Bacon, Chanda (Jack Smith) Wieland, Regena (Michael) Gruber, Tami (Duane Thomas) Porter, Nathaniel, Lars (Stacy), Alexander (Karen) Johnston, Steven (Andrea) Meadows, Olivia (Timothy) Day, Patrick Dixon Jr., Elizabeth (Billy) Roberts, 30 great grandchildren, several cousins, nieces, nephews and special friend Terry Dowdell.
Maxine was a founding member of the Greenville Area Senior Center where she took charge of planning trips for the group including trips to Alaska and Hawaii. She was Senior of the Year and BPW Woman of the Year in 1998.
Maxine was a long time active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and Rachel Circle.
Maxine was a 40-year member and four-time president of American Legion Auxiliary 101 in Greenville and a 26-year member of 8/40 Salon 726.
Maxine was a 41-year, life member and three time president of VFW Auxiliary 5065 in Sheridan and past 9th District President.
Maxine enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, camping and traveling. She traveled to all 50 of the United States, Canada, Mexico, Okinawa, Africa and most of Europe.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 PM at Hurst Funeral Home in Greenville. Funeral Services will be 9:30 AM Friday August 6 at First Congregational Church in Greenville with Rev. Besty Kamphuis Pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI at 1 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to Greenville Area Senior Center, St. Paul Lutheran Church, or VFW Auxiliary 5065, Sheridan.

I have many fond memories of your mom at St. Paul. I was lucky to have an opportunity to play cards with her when i would take my dad (Chuck Hall) to St. Paul to play occasionally. Know that iam praying for your family during this difficult time.
