Rev. Carl Adrian JohnsonRev. Carl A. Johnson age 83 of Greenville went to be with the Lord he loved and served on Wednesday September 1, 2010 in Greenville. He was born the son of Theodore and Lillie Stark Johnson in Ensley Township Newaygo County MIon September 26, 1926. Rev. Johnson was a veteran of WWII serving as a Sgt. in the European Theater and also was an assistant chaplain. He attended Spring Arbor College and graduated from Greenville College, Greenville IL and then served in the ministry his entire life. He married Dorothy M. Kraak in Zeeland MI on June 12, 1947 and they served churches in Mesick and Thompsonville, Kingsley, Sault St. Marie, Greenville MI, Goderich Ontario, Canada, Sparta, Detroit, East Wenatchee, Washington, Nyssa, Oregon, Caldwell Idaho and Jackson MI. He also with his wife owned the Johnson Foster Care Home in Greenville and he continued to be an evangelist until his home going.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy, children; Rev. Dennis (Joan) Johnson of Greenville, Kathryn (David) McCaman of Rapid River, MI, J. Dwayne Johnson of Florida, James (Cindy) Johnson of Sand Lake and Robert (Lori) Johnson of Grand Rapids, 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, brother Ted Johnson of Big Rapids, sister Ethel Eckert of Illinois, brothers and sisters-in-law; Paul (Elsie) Kraak of Zeeland, Roger (Vonda) Kraak of Kalamazoo, Marilyn ( Al) Harrington of Holland, Ann Harris of the Traverse City area and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Victor.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 4, 2010 at 2 PM at the Pilgrim Bible Church (361 Pine St.) Cedar Springs. Officiating will be Rev. Blake Jones and son Rev. Dennis Johnson. Burial will be in North Ensley Cemetery, Ensley Center. Visitation will be on Friday from 6 to 8 PM at Hurst Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be given to Greenville Bible Methodist Church.

Our love and prayers are with the Johnson family today. Both of our lives have been influenced by the Christian example of Godliness, servanthood, and persevering strength exhibited by Bro. Carl Johnson. We will miss his smiles, hugs, and encouraging words. Although we won't be able to attend the funeral due to a funeral in our own church the same day, please know that our hearts and sympathies are with the Sis. Johnson and all of the family.
