1915 - 2010
Mr. Joseph Francis Hammond, Jr., age 95, passed away late Monday, September 13, 2010 at Spectrum Health United Memorial United Campus in Greenville. He was born April 13, 1915 in Kent City. On October 24, 1936, he married the former Eileen Bonner in Grand Rapids. They were longtime Gowen and Greenville residents. Mr. Hammond retired from the former Gibson Refrigerator Company as a very skilled Metal Finisher. He was an active U.A.W. member and a staunch lifelong Democrat. He loved horseshoes and bowling and excelled at both. He loved to exercise and could often be seen running or walking around Baldwin Lake. His loving wife Eileen preceded him in death, as did nine brothers and sisters. He is survived by his children, Dan (Jan) Hammond of Colorado Springs, CO and Kathy (Dan, Jr.) Smuk of Dearborn; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and special niece, Karen (Russell) Reeves of Belding. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 AM at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the service. Pastor Bob Cooper of the First Church of God, Greenville, will serve as officiant. Interment will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Memorial contributions may be given to Spectrum Health Hospice.

I'm grieving with you, the loss of Uncle Joe. I always loved to hear him play the harmonica and loved his smile. I have such fond memories of him, he will be missed. My prayers are with you all. Love you, Scott
