1920 - 2010
Elverne Niels Jorgensen went to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, October 19, 2010. He was also greeted by his wife of 67 years, Alice, who preceded him in death in 2008. Elverne was born December 10, 1920 to Niels and Glenna (Jensen) Jorgensen in Stanton. He attended Frost Country School and Stanton High School. He extended his education at County Normal and taught school in Amble. On November 11, 1943, he married Alice Lockwood at her parents' home in Entrican. During this time, since his real passion was farming he purchased the family farm from his Uncle Chris and has farmed ever since. He and Alice had the privilege of many travels, winters in Florida, but most of all, being a great husband, father, gramps, and great-grandpa. Elverne was truly a man of integrity. He knew and taught what was right. He always put the Lord first in his life, followed by family and work. He knew and understood that God was sovereign and that if we put our trust in Him and pray, all things will be accomplished according to His plan. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother David, sister Irene Wickes, and brother-in-law Ivan Wickes. He is survived by his children, Don and Deanna Sweet of Lakeview and Joanne and Bill Noah of Coral; eight special grandchildren: Dawn and Joel Bartell, Jorgen and Elizabeth Noah, Dennis and Dawn Sweet, and Jennifer and Aaron McConnell; great-grandchildren: Samantha, Caitlyn, and Zachary Bartell, Cailin, Liam, and Jillian Noah, Donovan Sweet, Amanda, Brandon, Anna, and Alanna Hodges, and Kelsea McConnell; brother, Howard Jorgensen; and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and neighbors, but we know we WILL see him again. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at Faith Baptist Church, Greenville, with Elverne's pastor, Rev. Robert Winter officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Hurst Funeral Home. Burial will be in West Pine Cemetery, Coral. Memorial contributions may be given to the Algoma Christian School (PO Box 220, Kent City, MI 49330), God's Love Closet Ministries (PO Box 1021, Greenville, MI 48838), or Continental Baptist Missions (11650 Northland Dr., Rockford, MI 49341).

To the whole family of Gramps. Our prayers are with you during this time. What a blessing Gramps was to us, especially coming to Colorado for our 50th anniversary in July. He was a man's man,a man of his word, and most of all a godly man. We'll see you in heaven, Gramps!

Our heartfelt sympathies to the family. We had a great privilege of knowing Elverne & Alice through farming and living in the community.. He was a strong christian pillar of the community and always had something to share about the Lord. We will miss him. We are so glad we had the chance to visit with him this past summer. Collect your crowns and trophies Elverne, we are sure you have many.

My deepest sympathies to the entire family on the loss of Elverne. I have known Elverne for 30 years. I visited with him many times at the farm and he always had a testimony for his Lord and Saviour. He dearly loved his Lord and his family. He will be missed.

To Deanna, Don, Joanne and Bill:
May the Lord give you peace and comfort during this difficult time. We, as Christians, do not grieve as those without hope...it is great comfort to KNOW that you will see your Dad again and we will see ours. You will be in our daily prayers.
