1935 - 2011
Donna Louise (Phelps) Green passed away Friday morning, March 11, 2011 at her home in Greenville. She was born July 7, 1935 in Greenville to Leland and Leah Phelps. She went to Tobey School through the eighth grade, and graduated from Greenville Senior High School in 1952. In 1953 she married Robert Murphy, and together they lived in Washington DC where he was stationed in the US Navy. They had three children, Rick, Enola, and Kimberley. In 1958, she married Leo Green and they had two daughters, Cheryl and Beth. Leo adopted and helped raise the three older children. Donna worked as secretary at Baldwin Heights Elementary School. In 1964, she took a job as a cashier at Meijer, eventually becoming store bookkeeper, a job she held until retirement in 1997. In retirement she enjoyed traveling with her sister. She loved crafts and made many quilts for family and friends. She also loved to crochet, play golf, and go to the casino with the love of her life in her later years, Francis Wilson. Donna is survived by her children, Rick Green (Lori Brownell), Enola (Kevin) Brown, Kimberley (Jeff) Keselring, Cheryl (Scott) Wright, and Beth (John) Collier; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Priscilla Hansen; brother, Max (Flora E.) Phelps; and Francis' family, children, Ronald Wilson and Beverly Wilson, grandchildren, Autumn and Amber, and great-grandchild, Albryn. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo Green in 1993; and brother-in-law, Alvin Hansen. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with Rev. Ken Harger officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM, and private interment will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or Faith Hospice.

Kim, I just read of your Mom's passing and that today was her funeral. I so sorry for your loss. Eventually your tears of sadness will be replaced by the joy of all of your memories with her. I know you will treasure them all. Ken Harger is an angel himself, and I am sure that he was a comfort to you and your family. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless you Kim.

To Donna's entire family,I am very sorry for your great loss. I just found out tonight that Donna had passed and can not even think of words that could help with your pain of loss. I worked with Donna for many years at Meijer and will remember her as being very firm with us, but always fair and understanding. She had a laugh that could be heard through out the store. A poem I recieved when my Mom died in 09 "Remember me" has brought me much comfort and I pray it will do the same for you all. Many verses but the last verse is the one I say to myself many times a day..."but most of all remember each day right from the start, I will be forever near for I live within your heart". I pray when the sorrow subsides your memories of a wonderful Mom bring you comfort.

I know now, Donna, that when you talk to God it will be a local call, as the night that you passed the ground shook around the world. I know that you made me a better person and I will love you for ever. Now you will see us all on the other side.
