1917 - 2011
 Mrs. Alice Russell, age 93, of Harvard, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011 at the Fred and Lena Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids. She was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1917 in Cedar, MI, the daughter of John and Anna Maleski. She lived the first nine years of her life on North Manitou Island. The family then moved to Leland, and Alice graduated from Leland High School. She took a job working at the Cherry Factory in Traverse City, where she met Orville Russell. On September 29, 1941, they married. They moved to Harvard, MI on October 10, 1946, and lived there for the rest of their lives. In 1953, she had a starring role as the maid, Maizie, in the play "Sister Susie Swings It". Alice was a longtime member of St. Margaret Catholic Church in Harvard. She was a fun-loving woman who loved to travel and especially loved her family. Alice is survived by her beloved husband of 69 ½ years, Orville; children, Delores (Norm) Harper of Cedar Springs, Bill (Ruth Ann) Russell of Rockford, Marlene (Charlie) Rose of Cedar Springs, Sandra (Blair) Ostrander of Grand Rapids, Gary Russell of Springfield, OR, Rick (Toni) Russell of The Dalles, OR, and John Russell of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandchildren, Joseph Harper of Wyoming, MI, MayAnn (John) Harper McClure of Sandusky, OH, Jane Baker of Cedar Springs, Kristen Harper of Middleville, Paul (Kirsten) Russell of Mendon, Ted (Sonja) Russell of Farmington Hills, Orville (Heidi) Seibold of Harvard, Tony (Nicki) Seibold of Grand Rapids, Charles Rose, Jr. of Grand Rapids, Ed (Becky) Rose of Grand Rapids, Rebecca (Jeremy) Rose Wheeler of Grand Rapids, Cascen Ostrander of Anchorage, AK, Jennie (Zack) Russell of Seattle, Suzanne Russell of Cedar Rapids, IA, Clarissa Russell of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Kyle Russell of Cedar Rapids, IA; 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Geraldine (Louis) Houdek of Leland, brother, Steve Maleski of Oldsmar, FL; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clem, Raymond, Johnny, and Robert Maleski; sisters, Gertie Bankertz, Anna Mae Donall, and Jeanette Kalchik; and a son, Joseph Riggs. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 18, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St. Margaret Catholic Church, 10195 16 Mile Rd. NE, Cedar Springs/Harvard, with interment to follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. The Rev. Michael F. Cilibraise will serve as celebrant. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with a Vigil Service at 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Margaret Catholic Church.
