John C. Wabeke, 75, of Gowen, formerly of Lansing, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Twin Oaks under hospice care. He was preceded in death by his parents, Case and Eva Wabeke, brothers Greg and Jerry Wabeke, and special friend Janet Murray.
He is survived by sisters-in-law Judie Wabeke of Greenville and Carol Wabeke of Grand Rapids, nieces Johanna (Eugene) Rentschler of Lakeview, Dr. Janice Wabeke (Steve Colby) of Belmont, Kathryn (Bret) Bumgardner of Grand Rapids and nephews Todd (Kristy) Wabeke and Ryan Wabeke of Grand Rapids, and a great niece and great nephews, and special friend Tom Murray.
John was born in Kent City and served in the Army and was stationed in Germany. He resided in Lansing for most of his adult life and worked for the CIty of Lansing for many years before retiring, He enjoyed travel, casino trips and loved the Detroit TIgers.
According to his wishes there will be a private family burial.

im sorry about the loss of john i never got the chance to work at twins oaks but my mother did and i got to know john through visiting he always said my mother was going to be his private cook when he left there and him and i were going to go to turk lake for dinner and drinks ha ha and after the drinks we were going to the casino i always asked who was gonna drive ha ha he always said well you my son brandon really enjoyed visiting john and always looked forward to john giving him suckers and candy john will be dearly missed by all who knew him he was a joy to be around and i know hes dancing with joy to be with janet and his other family our families thought and prayers are with you the family and twin oaks staff was the best for caring for john they have a great and caring staff

I worked at Twin Oaks also,It was a pleasure to be around John.He was my helper at times,in the kitchen.He always told me,about him walking,with his therapist,was very proud of that.My deepest sympathies go out to John's family..John,i will remember all the times you told me i was hired,and not fired..hehe John,was known,and the guy with suckers,my grandson,will miss that ..You can be where you always talked about with Janet.Now you have the bigest dream you told me about..being free and on your own..We will miss you down here.but know your are very happy now John..

I also worked at Twin Oaks for a time when John was there. It was a pleasure to be around John, and he will surely be missed. My deepest sympathies go out to John's entire family. John had a big heart and he loved his family. Keep rooting for the Tigers, big guy!

John was my " assistant manager" I now that twin oaks will never be the same. John is missed by all of us. Thank you for the honor of entrusting us with his care. Edward will miss his suckers.

I used to work at Twin Oaks and take care of John. John & I got along really good and had some good times talking! He was a great person and I will miss him dearly!!!! My condolences go out to the whole family! We all know he is very happy now that he is with his parents & Janet which he talked highly about! I love you John and I will miss you dearly!!!
