Growing up, I always looked up to my grandma Sandy. She was so kind and patient and beautiful. She looked after those she loved. She was the kind of person that made a house a home. And she made sure others knew they were welcome in that home. Her nature and spirit continue to guide me to do better each day. Even over a decade since her passing. I may have been a kid when she died and my memories of her may have faded in-part, but I will always have that. I believe that if my grandma Sandy were here today, she'd love what I have become. My goals in life and in person. I hope to see her again one day. For now, I want to say, I love you grandma Sandy. I'll never forget you. And I'll always appreciate the impact you've had on my life.

She and my grandpa will always be in my heart. The morning she died, she was supposed to take us to see some news lady at the park. She had a bit of a cold so my mom sent us to Day Care. Miss Cherry made us write her a letter saying 'Hope you feel better.' My dad took us out to Greenville to her house to see our family. When we were coming down the drive way, my dad stopped and told us of her passing. He told us that when we got inside, Grandpa and Uncle Tim and Tay and Trevor and just, pretty much every family member would be inside crying. He was right. Grandma wasn't there and everybody had glum faces. In early 2013, my Grandpa died after drinking and smoking too much. He couldn't stand living without my Grandma. Everybody misses them greatly. At least I got 9 years with her and 10 with Grandpa.

I am truly saddened by the news of Sandy's sudden passing. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to see her not even a month ago at the American Legion in Constock Park when she so graciously donated her winnings from the raffle back to Darrel at his fundraiser. I hadn't seen Sandy for at least 25 years and I could only tell everyone how wonderful she looked. It was so good to see you all. It renewed the wonderful memories of the many times we spent together when we were all so young. Uncle Red & Aunt Marty meant so much to our family. You all are in my prayers, please accept my deepest condolences. Please know that God will be your guide and comforter today and in the long and difficult days ahead. Sandra Louise Tobey age 69 of Greenville passed away suddenly Thursday June 23, 2011 at Spectrum Health United Greenville. She was born in Greenville on May 30 1942 the daughter of Leo R. Red Merritt and Martha Marty Carpenter Merritt. Sandy was a graduate of Greenville High School with the class of 1960 and a graduate of Central Michigan University. She married Dan Tobey at the First Congregational Church in Greenville on July 25, 1964. She was a teacher at Head Start for over 25 years and was a life time member of the First Congregational Church in Greenville where she was active with Jr. Choir, teaching Sunday school, Women's fellowship and a member of the Brewster Circle. She was also a member of Si Quaeris club, a volunteer at Spectrum Health United and a member of the Red Hat Society.
