Dear Pat,
We are so sorry for your loss. Jim enlightened the lives of countless youngsters at Lakes, and was a valued colleague. He loved all things outdoors and shared his enthusiasm with his fellow teachers and his students. One of my first memories of Jim occurred early in my career at Lakes, when I learned that Jim was prone to picking up deceased animals on his drive to school. I still remember the first time I opened our small lounge freezer door to spot something with an elongated beak and feathers staring at me. Unnerving, at first, but soon to be recognized as part of an ever growing assortment of critters that would follow. His private collection of natural objects (kept in his classroom closet) was an invitation for many a rodent when the fall winds grew chilly. Since my room was right next to his for several years, I grew to expect a variety of little creatures to scurry over as they looked for more sources of food, in addition to the acorns, etc., that Jim had in the corner. He always kept a pair of waders, a large net for retrieving treasures from the water, a large pair of boots¬ a defined collection. More of an acquired assortment. One of his favorite activities was taking his class out to the woods and wetlands behind the school building to collect materials for fall bouquets each November. This grew from a book, The Thanksgiving Treasure, which Jim read to his students prior to Thanksgiving. It would be difficult to determine who enjoyed this annual excursion more, Jim or his kids. They returned with countless varieties of weeds and seeds and more weeds, that would be fashioned into original bouquets to take home to their families, just as the character Addie had done in the story. Jim was a caring teacher, a great conversationalist&loved to tell a story, and the quintessential outdoorsman. He will be missed. May God bless you. I know he will continue let His light shine on Jim.

We are trying to rearrange previous commitments to be able to attend the funeral. Please know that all your friends at Shiloh will keep you in their prayers.
