Mr. Raymond James French, age 92, passed away late Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Spectrum Health United Memorial United Campus in Greenville. He was born August 2, 1919 in Cedar Springs, the son of Munson James French and Florence B. (Shotwell) French. He was a proud veteran, having served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Ray retired from the former Gibson Refrigerator Company after many years of service. He also farmed the French family property in Oakfield Township, where he lived for most of his life. He was an avid outdoorsmen and loved wildlife. Ray is survived by a brother, Edward French of Greenville. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Howard, Wyon, and Alberta French. Visitation will be Saturday, September 3, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville. In accordance with his wishes, no formal funeral services will be held, and private burial will take place in Solon Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association or to a charity of your choice.
