Mrs. Dorothy Louise Wells, age 70 of Stanton, passed away late Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. She was born March 26, 1941 in Lansing, the daughter of Donald and Trula (Hanes) Hill. On April 11, 1959, she married Dale A. Wells in Manistique. That same day, she and Dale moved to Alaska, where they lived for nearly 20 years. They moved to Stanton in 1977, where she lived the remainder of her life. Together they were foster parents to over 100 children in Alaska and Michigan. Dorothy was a longtime active member of the Greenville Church of the Nazarene, and was an integral part of the Crossroads Compassionate Ministry. She will be missed, especially by her deeply devoted husband of 52 years, Dale; children, Lori Wells-Ashbaugh of Arizona, Steve (Anissa) Wells of Cedar Springs, Scott (Blanca) Wells of North Carolina, Craig (Toni) Wells of Rockford, Cory (Jamie) Wells of Manistee, Joe Wells of Manistee, and Vicki Wells of Greenville; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and foster children; siblings, Barbara (Don) Carey of Mt. Pleasant, Darold (Marge) Hill of Spring Arbor, Rex (Phillipa) Hill of Hillman, Wayne (Arlene) Hill of Gwinn, David (Jean) Hill of Comins, Clayton (Connie) Hill of Sumner, Dan Hill of Ithaca, and Doug (Linda) Hill of St. Johns; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dave Hagerman of Lansing, Don Nelson of Alma, Rev. Henry (Joan) Wells of Manistique, James (Janet) Wells of Florida, and Carolyn (Robert) Clemons of Alaska; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Cliff Hill; sisters, Sherry Hagerman and Betty Nelson; parents-in-law, D. Lester and Ruth Wells; and sisters-in-law, Sandy Hill and Donna VanderMeide. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with visitation Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service. Dorothy's pastor, Rev. Timothy R. Deshaw, will serve as officiant, and private burial will be in Riverdale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Crossroads Compassionate Ministry.
