1928 - 2011
 Howard Merton Newland, born July 25, 1928, aged 83, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, November 30, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Caroline; son, Kim (Joanne) Newland of Coopersville; daughters, Judy (Sam) Lovett of Gowen, Patty Newland of Belding, and Tammy (Kevin) McCarthy of Tempe, AZ; grandchildren, Shawn, Kimberly, Renae, and Corey; and great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Tiffany, April, Alec, and Autumn. Howard was a lifelong truck driver. He worked for the Allegan County Sheriffs Department and volunteered for the city of Rockford Police Department. His voice was heard on WJPW radio in Rockford and most recently as host of the Blue Room on WDLP radio. He truly enjoyed auto racing and had a career where he drove stock cars at Speedrome and Marne. He also drove midgets and later announced at Crystal Raceway. Howard loved his family, fishing, and a good laugh. He was a great storyteller and really enjoyed a good hamburger. Cremation has taken place and no public services will be held. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
