
George W. Williams age 91 of Greenville passed away Saturday December 10, 2011 at Spectrum Health United Memorial Rehab and Nursing Center. He was born in Greenville on November 21, 1920 the son of Milo and Martha Rosemier Williams. George was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army in Europe and earning the Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 4 overseas service bars. He was a life member of the Lester J. Sitts VFW Post 5065 of Sheridan and formerly the Belding American Legion. He retired after working at Gibson Refrigerator Co, Standard Oil gas station in Belding and for Belding Tool and Machine.
His wife Beverly Bennett Williams preceded him in death in 1983 and his wife Edith VanHoose Williams preceded him in 2006. Also preceding were his brothers; Paul, Chuck, Milo and Robert and sisters Hattie Diepenhorst, Rosetta Packard, and Gertrude Race.
He is survived by his daughter Karen L. O'Gara of Jacksonville FL and his son Larry Williams, 3 granddaughters, Robin Wright, Holly Hall and Carrie Klapper, 1 grandson, Patrick O'Gara, 8 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. Also surviving are Edith's family; Harley (Linda) VanHoose, Nora Ellen (Richard) Godfrey, Richard Van Hoose, and many step grand and great grandchildren, sister-in-law Anna Belle Williams, brother-in-law, Raymond (Ruth) Bennett and nieces and nephews.
Funeral and committal services will be held on Wednesday December 14, 2011 at 11 AM at the Hurst Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Charnley officiating with military honors provided by the Lester J. Sitts VFW Post # 5065 of Sheridan. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens Belding. Visitation will begin at 10 AM Wednesday prior to the funeral. Memorial contributions may be given to 1st United Methodist Church or Fighting Falcon Military Museum.
