M. Arlene Phelps age 86 of Six Lakes passed away Sunday December 11, 2011 at Spectrum Health United Memorial Greenville. She was born in Edmore May 22, 1925 the daughter of Mark L. and Laura Freeman White. She was a young widow of WWII losing her husband at Pearl Harbor. She married Dale V. Phelps in 1946 and he preceded her in death April 4, 2008 after 62 years of marriage. Also preceding her in death were her sister Wava Demott and her brother R. Dale White. She retired to Six Lakes MI after 30 years of service with General Motors Lansing and enjoyed collecting, baking and her flowers. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary of Six Lakes.
Surviving are her children; Rich (Nancy) Horton of Haslett, Mike (Sharon) Phelps of Cadillac and Jo Phelps of Olivet, grandchildren, Anisa (Larry) Mazuca, Sam (Casey) Phelps, Ashley (Micah) Wallis, Gunner Jones, four great grandchildren, her sister-in-law Flossie White of Lakeview and brother-in-law Elmer DeMott of Six Lakes.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 14, 2011 at 1 PM at the Pine River Church of God Vestaburg with Rev. Bill Horton officiating. Burial will be in Richland Cemetery, Vestaburg. Visitation will begin at 11 AM prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be given to the VFW Post 5602 Auxiliary of Six Lakes.
