1932 - 2012
Dr. Thomas W. Deurloo, 79 of Stanton, died Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Metron of Belding after being ill with Alzheimer's disease for several years. He was born September 25, 1932 in Lansing, the son of Milton and Mabel (Carlisle) Deurloo. On June 16, 1957, he married the former P. Joan Swanson. He graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1950, the University of Michigan in 1954, and the Kirksville School of Osteopathic Medicine in 1958. He practiced general medicine in Edmore for many years, and radiology at Sheridan Community Hospital, where he served as Chief of Staff. He was a life member of the American Osteopathic Association, the Michigan Association of Osteopathic Physicians, and the American College of Osteopathic Radiology. He was actively involved in his community, and was a past president of the Edmore Lions Club. In 1975, Montabella High School held their Homecoming in his honor to commemorate his many years of service as the athletic department's physician. Dr. Deurloo is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan of Stanton; daughter, Kathy (Bret) O'Brien of Stanton; grandchildren, Jason O'Brien of Casper, WY, Callie O'Brien of Grand Rapids, Brendan O'Brien of Stanton, and Carrie (Gabriel) Powell of Norway; great-grandson, Ethan Powell; brothers, Russell (Joyce) Deurloo of Fremont and James (Carol) Deurloo of Mecosta; and sister-in-law, Norma Carey of Grand Rapids. He was preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Cheryl Deurloo; sister-in-law, Jean Swanson; and brother-in-law, Norman Carey. The Deurloo family would like to especially thank Metron of Belding for their loving and compassionate care. Memorial services will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Trinity Evangelical Free Church (400 N. Lincoln St., Stanton, MI 48888), with visitation from 11:00 to 12:00 prior to the service. Pastor Kurt Hoffman and Rev. Connie Bongard will serve as officiants. Private inurnment will take place in the spring at Vinewood Cemetery, Edmore. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Metron of Belding Activities Fund or to the Alzheimer's Association.
