Donald T. Pieper Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1920 - 2012

Donald T. PieperDonald Theodore Pieper, 91, of Greenville passed away Tuesday morning February 21, 2012 after a brief hospitalization. He maintained his enthusiasm for life and love for friends and family up to the end. He was born June 17, 1920 in Detroit, the son of Max and Clara Pieper. He was a graduate of Southeastern H.S. in Detroit and retired as vice-president of Howard A. Davidson Box Company in Detroit in 1985. Don married his beloved wife Vivian on October 17, 1942. They enjoyed nearly 68 years together before her passing in 2010. He deeply missed her and often reminisced about their life together. Don and Vivian were longtime residents of the Detroit and Birmingham area before moving to their beloved home on Como Lake in Greenville in 1987 after Don's retirement. This was a favorite gathering place for family and friends. Don and Vivian became active members of Faith Baptist Church after moving to Greenville. Don loved theatre organ music and enjoyed playing his organ at home as well as attending concerts. He and Vivian also enjoyed traveling and eating out at unique restaurants. Don and Vivian will be remembered for their love of family, faith in the Lord, hospitality, and friendliness to all. The family treasures the memory of many times together with family and friends at the cottages in Amhurstburg, Ontario, and Lake St. Helen and the family homes in Birmingham and Greenville. Don will be greatly missed by his children: Holly (John) Feeney of Bloomfield Hills, Donald R. (Julia) Pieper of Brighton, and Ronald (Joanne) Pieper of Chelsea; and his grandchildren Mark (Sara) Feeney, Ariana Pieper, Krista (Josh) Bower, Karen (Jared) Stauffer, and Eric Pieper. In addition to Vivian, Don was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn McQueen. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Friday, February 24 at Faith Baptist Church, Greenville. Visitation will precede the service from 10:00 to 11:30 AM. Rev. Robert Winter will serve as officiant. Graveside services will be at 11:30 AM Saturday at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy. Memorial contributions in Mr. Pieper's honor may be given to Faith Baptist Church.

I have many happy memories of the time I spent at the cottage in Amherstburg & in the home in Michigan of my adopted aunt & uncle. "Aunt" Vivian & "Uncle Don" opened their hearts to a little girl lonely for the family left behind in Ireland and the continued contact gave me roots as we moved though out my childhood. They will be greatly missed. I was thinking about Uncle Don this week when I was playing the game of Dominoes with my parents. The last time I saw both Aunt Vivian and Uncle Don they introduced us to Dominoes and Uncle Don beat all of us soundly. Holly, Don, and Ron, I will hold you and your families in my prayers.

To the Family, and to Don, Ron and Holly, especially, we express our heart-felt condolences. Each morning we included your Dad in our prayers. Now he is in the presence of the Lord he had come to love. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." (Psalm 116:15) You are in our prayers at this time. Such inspiring words in the message you sent out to all of us. Your family has been so blessed by this man who was a gentle and loving soul and the memories will be a continuing comfort in the years ahead. My father passed in 1984 and I still think of him often and recall so much of our his time with us. These are truly warming thoughts that linger even though so many years has gone by since he went to be with our Lord. You will enjoy and appreciate those memories that you keep. Our deepest sympathy Bill & Suzanne
