Mrs. Velma Agnes Goodenough, age 93, went to be with our Lord late Sunday, March 18, 2012 from her granddaughters home in Caledonia. She was a nearly lifelong resident of Amsden, born on the family farm on October 14, 1918 to Chamello and Carrie (Hansen) Rydahl. On November 3, 1949 in Greenville, she married Cecil Goodenough, a World War II Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient. Velma was a proud three-time cancer survivor. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and will be deeply missed, especially by her grandchildren, Scott (Peggy) Yonkers of Sheridan, Jamie (Rick) Douma of Caledonia, and Jody Rosendall of Caledonia; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and special friends, Mike and Cammie Armock. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil; daughter, Judy Yonkers; brother, Henry Rydahl; and sister, Mabel Maller. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Hurst Funeral Home, with visitation from 2:00 to 3:00 PM prior to the funeral. Rev. George Mossel will officiate, and interment will follow in South Sidney Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Heartland Hospice.

Velma was a wonderful friend to my mother, Emma Rydahl. She often brought treats and goodies to her when she lived alone on the farm. Her husband, Cecil, and Velma took her to Florida one winter, which was very thoughtful of them. Her cheerful spirit inspired us all and she will be greatly missed.

Scott, Jamie, Jody and all the family, we met Velma through the marriage of Tyler and Carissa and thought she was a lovely lady with spirit and spunk! She was very blessed to have such a loving family for her. We are so sorry not to be able to celebrate her life with you as we are traveling, but we will be with you in spirit and prayer. Love, Holly and Tom

Dear Family of Velma,
We are thinking of you. We had the privilege of being Velma's neighbor when we moved to Amsden in 2002. She was a wonderful neighbor and is greatly missed.
