Mrs. Betty Jean Beckmeyer, age 77, went to be with her Lord Thursday, May 24, 2012 from Metron of Greenville. A longtime Sheridan resident, she was born in Greenville on October 1, 1934, the daughter of Howard and Zalma (Hock) Race. She was a nurse at Sheridan Community Hospital for many years, and was an active member and past president of the Lester J. Sitts American Legion Post 5065 Auxiliary in Sheridan. Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Henry E. Beckmeyer; daughter, Mary Jo Beckmeyer; and siblings, Barbara Schultz, Richard Race, and Carol Cox. She is survived by her children, William Jorgensen (Judy Johnston), Terry (Gala) Jorgensen, James Beckmeyer, and Dr. Henry Beckmeyer III; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Deb (Will) Beamer, James (Vicki) Schultz, Tim Schultz, Mark (Betsy) Martin, and Gordon Cox; special friends, Tim Fancett, Deb Zander, and Rev. Kendall and Rev. Lillian Downing; and many other nieces, nephews, and good friends. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and no public services will be held. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
