Jack L. WoodMr. Jack L. Wood, age 79 of Greenville, passed away Tuesday evening, June 5, 2012 at Spectrum Health United Memorial United Campus. He was born December 14, 1932 in Greenville, the son of Orrin C. and Gertrude E. (Gould) Wood. On May 7, 1955, he married Carolyn J. Harding. Jack proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, and was a member of the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101 in Greenville. He was an avid bowler, and bowled on the Amateur Bowling Tour, winning seven titles. He was the 1998 National Bowling Champion. He passed his love of the sport on as a youth bowling assistant coach. He also coached Little League for many years. He was a member of the Danish Band and was an accomplished artist. He was particularly skilled at producing portraits of dogs. Jack is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; children, Susan Larsen of Greenville, Stephen (Sandy) Wood of Greenville, Wendy (Dean) Smith of Greenville, and Jackie (Charles) Beechler of Sidney; grandchildren, Peter Larsen, Joel (Serena) Larsen, Amanda (Jaason) Durnell, Melissa (Chris) Halstead, Sean (Jennifer) Wood, Erin (Chad) Hilliker, and Michael (Amber) Beechler; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by in infant twin brother, Richard Wood. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with visitation Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00. Pastor Bob Cooper of the Greenville First Church of God will officiate, and interment will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding, where military honors will be rendered under the auspices of the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
