1982 - 2012
Matthew Steven Mendrea age 29 of Grand Rapids passed away Wednesday July 18, 2012 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus Grand Rapids after a lingering illness. He was born in East Grand Rapids MI on October 25, 1982 and was the adopted son of David and Jeanne Mendrea. He enjoyed bicycling, his cat and helping his many friends.
He is survived by his parents David and Jeanne, his sisters; MaryAnn (Andy) Mendrea-Houghton, Cara (Jack) Mendrea Johnson, nieces and nephews, Carlee, Sydney, Kelsea, Jack David, Will, Ella Jeanne and Jeffrey, his grandmother Dorothy Utter and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Blanche Mendrea and Bud Utter.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday July 24, 2012 at 11 AM from St. Charles Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Mike Cilibraise as celebrant. A visitation will be held beginning at 10 AM at St. Charles on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Charles School Foundation. Messages of condolence may be sent via hurstfuneralhome.com.

I just found out about Matt's passing. I have been Matt's neighbor for the past 2yrs. He was one of the sweetest people I have ever met. He became one of my best friends and I am blessed to have had him in my life. I send my condolences to the Mendrea family and I will continue to pray for the family during this time of grief. I love you Matt and you will be missed.

Dave&Jeanne and family,
We are so sorry for your loss. Our prayers and thought are with you all. I will always remember that cute little freckled face boy with the adorable smile that would sit in the office and wait for his mom to get out of work. Sorry we were not able to be there with you today. We are up north. All the grandkids will be here this week and the 5 older ones will stay with us for 6 days.
