1926 - 2012
 Evelyn Hazel Phillips, age 86, passed away Monday, October 1, 2012 at Rehoboth AFC in Byron Center. She was born July 22, 1926 in Jackson, MI, the daughter of Elmer and Martha (Race) Coe. Evelyn worked for many years at Fields Department Store in Jackson. She was a leader in the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. She was also very active in The Salvation Army, serving as a Sunday school teacher, Girl Guard leader, and front office worker. Evelyn is survived by her children, Hazel (Richard) Denig of Grand Rapids, Doug (Pam) Barcalow of Fort Wayne, IN, Gordon (Dennis Underwood) Barcalow of Orlando, FL, and Sue (Dale) Hudson of Greenville; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Vernim Coe; and sister, Laura Evans. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the funeral. Peter Winkle, chaplain for Great Lakes Caring Hospice, will serve as officiant. Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of one's choice.
