
Victoria (Vicki) Elizabeth Sturm, age 99, of Greenville passed away suddenly Friday evening at Spectrum Health United Memorial Emergency room. She was born in Muskegon MI to Stephan and Marianne (Olesczwski) Gurecki on July 8, 1913. She was married to Duward (Si) Sturm on February 28, 1933 at the Church of the Resurrection in Lansing. She is preceded in death by husband in 1976 and her son, Gerald (Jerry) in 2000. Also preceding her are her brothers (and spouses): Frank (Juanitia), John (Mary), Stanley, Virgil (Pete) (Mary) and Leo Gurecki and sister Emily (Dale) Lott and brother-in-laws Walter Sturm and Richard Sebring.
She and her husband lived in the Greenville and Stanton area all of their lives. They owned and operated Si's Tavern in Stanton for 29 years. She was a manager at the former W.T. Grant Store in Greenville and sold real estate. She and Si were founding and active member of St. Bernadette of Lourdes Catholic Church Stanton serving as a catechism teacher for a period of time. She has been a devoted member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Greenville for many years and was adopted by the fourth grade class of St. Charles School and she in turn adopted them.
She is survived by her grandchildren; Debra Sturm, Daniel Sturm and Douglas (Georgeanna) Sturm, great granddaughter Gillian, daughter-in-law Joan (Thurber) Sturm, sister Bernice Sebring, many nieces and nephews and sister-in-law Dorothy (Leo) Gurecki.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday November 29, 2012 at 11 AM from St. Charles Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Michael Cilibraise as celebrant. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Stanton. A Rosary will be prayed at 6 PM on Wednesday with visitation to follow until 8 PM at Hurst Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Jerry Sturm Memorial Scholarship at Wright State University, 3640 Colonel Glenn Hwy, Dayton, OH 45435.
