Mary Ellen Wood age 95 formerly of Greenville passed away Tuesday evening December 4, 2012 in Florida. She was born in Greenville May 22, 1917 the daughter of John S. and Hazel M. (Skroder) Christensen. She graduated from Greenville High School in 1935 and attended Michigan State College in East Lansing. She married Matthew Arnold Wood at her parents home on Franklin Street in Greenville on June 28, 1940.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church and the Bethany circle of the church, Si Quarius Club and was the secretary of the church for several years.
Preceding her in death were her husband Arnie in 1990, her son John B. in 2002, her brothers Arthur C. and John (Jack) Christensen.
She is survived by her daughter Cathie (Brian) Gotts of Port Richey FL, grandchildren, Sarah, Heather, Graham, Emily and David and 3 great grandchildren, her sisters-in-law
Barbery Christensen of Ann Arbor, Maxine Wood and Virginia Wood both of Greenville and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday January 5, 2013 at 11 AM from Hurst Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Jerrold T. Jones officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Greenville. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Flat River Museum or Flat River Community Library.
