1921 - 2012
Thelma Elaine Franklin, age 91 of Edmore, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 9, 2012. She was born February 20, 1921 in Langston, the daughter of Clarence and Esther (Story) Cannon. On January 16, 1946, she married Alton Franklin. Thelma was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who greatly enjoyed her family and friends. She worked as a beautician in the community for nearly 70 years. She was baptized at the Langston Church as a young girl, and was a member of Pleasant View United Brethren Church in Blanchard. She was a member of the National Hairdressers and Cosmetologists Association, and a longstanding member of the Langston Mystery Sister Club. She enjoyed the company of her many friends, sharing many cards and baked goods on special days and holidays throughout the year. She also took special pleasure, with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, feeding the many birds that flocked to the feeder outside her window. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alton in 1994; and three sisters, Tess Wilcox, Flossie Wanink, and Melva Johnson. She is survived by her children, Jacque (Jerry) Kellogg of Lakeview and Gregory (Eileen) Franklin of Las Vegas, NV; three grandchildren, Jill (Bryan) Almasi-Dole of Mt. Pleasant, Candace (Eric) Frankl of Henderson, NV, and Stacie (Shaun) Holguin of Huntington Beach, CA; five step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Donna Buchholz of Stanton. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 12, 2012 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 PM. The Rev. Steven M. Voelker, pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lakeview, will serve as officiant, and private burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Langston. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or Spectrum Health Hospice and Palliative Care.
