1926 - 2013
Mrs. Donelda Mae Chapin, age 86, formerly of Lakeview, Lansing, and Greenville, died Wednesday morning, January 2, 2013 at Clark Retirement Community in Grand Rapids. She was born March 13, 1926 in Greenville, the daughter of Burness and Clara (Satterlee) Smith. On August 19, 1945, she married Paul O. Chapin in Lakeview. Donelda was a longtime member of the Greenville First United Methodist Church, as well as the Lois Circle, the United Methodist Women, and the Homemakers of the church. She was employed at the Lakeview Hospital for more than 23 years, and retired from the State of Michigan's Department of Public Health. More than anything, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed, especially by her children, Randall (Linda) Chapin of Milwaukee, WI, Ronald (DiAnn) Chapin of Greenville, and Rhonda (David) Waldron of Salt Lake City, UT; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; Ken Satterlee, who was as close as a brother to Donelda; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 60 years, Paul, in 2006; and two brothers. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Greenville First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Theron Bailey officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Greenville First United Methodist Church, the Clark Retirement Community Benevolence Fund, or the Alzheimer's Association.
