Kind, gracious, wonderful sense of humor, and a generous spirit is what I remember most about Mildred. She was always willing to share and assist whenever asked and/or needed. No job and/or challenge was ever too big or too small. She tackled life with positive enthusiasm. Mildred was a genuine individual that was my mentor when I was first hired by MSU. She and Paul were fantastic and I have many fond and grateful memories. Thank you, Mildred. Love, Lana

Paul and Mildred were 2 of the nicest people I have ever known. They were both so kind and caring. It was always a joy to talk to them as they both had a great sense of humor and definitely had a compassion for others. Mildred was my home-ec teacher and I learned so much from her. She had such a beautiful spirit...one very classy lady!! I enjoyed hearing Paul play his guitar and sing. He really loved music....he introduced me to the guitar "stick". Everytime I pick mine up I will think of him!! They will both be missed....

I am so sad to hear about the deaths of both Paul and Mildred. I first met Mildred while working at the Ionia County Extension office in the 1980s. It was such a privilege serving as her Assistant and every day of work was a joy because of her. I never had met a more kind and caring person and once I got to know Paul I felt the very same way about him. They also showed my kids, Tammy and Bradley, so much love and the kids truly adored them as well. When the kids were little we would go visit the Mahans a few times a year and spend the entire day with them. These visits were always filled with joyous guitar playing, singing, and lots and lots of laughter. Bradley and I visited the Mahans last summer right before he entered the Air Force. They both gave Brad an extra big hug when we left and said how proud they were that he joined the military and that they really expected great things from him. This meant so much to Brad as he always really looked up to both of them. Thanks Paul and Mildred for all your encouraging words over the years to me and the kids and for being such wonderful friends. Love and miss you both!

I had your Mom for my Home Ec. class. I just loved her. She was such a kind person and a great teacher. The last time I saw your parents was probably in the early 90's. I had dinner with them one evening. I have kept in touch with them over the years with Christmas cards. I'm still sad to hear of both of them passing, but I do know they are with God.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Mrs. Mahan has had the most profound influence on my life! She is the reason I went into education and had such a successful career. She taught me all kinds of amazing skills and habits. She believed in me when others didn't. She was the driving force in my life! I was her teachers aide in high school for two years. She was the sweetest, kindest, person I have ever known! The world truly is a sader place without her!

She was the best teacher I ever had. I'll never forget when she had us girls in her class make David a birthday cake out of 2 brillo soap pads and frost it pretty. He really got a surprise when he bit into it in class:)

My fondest memory of Mildred is traveling to and from one of our national conventions for Extension Home Economics. Mildred was so excited to have just seen her son after several years. I remember how proud she was of him, how her love just poured out as she told of his adventures. She was always a lady, gracious and kind. Truly one of a kind! I have very fond memories.

What a wonderful little lady! I had Mrs. Mahan for home ec many years ago. Over the years if I would see Mrs. Mahan she always remembered my sister Karen & I. We would get the wonder hug. When my Mom passed away she was there at the funeral home. Years later she was there again for us when my Dad passed away. It was such a joy to get one of her handmade cards.I saved them. She seemed to have known where we were over the years. I will miss her. Such a sweet lady.

I spent a lot of my time growing up around Mr. & Mrs. Mahan. David and Steve were my friends growing up and lived around the corner from us. Mrs. Mahan was a wonderful person and did her best to teach all us boys in Sheridan to cook and bake in Home Ec. She was very patient.
Paul, Dave, Steve & Sharon, I know you will miss her greatly. But, you also know she is enjoying a great celebration with our Lord.
Connie and I will keep you in our prayers.
God Bless You All and give you peace, comfort, and fond memories of your wife and mother.

Mildred was one of my mentors in Extension. She and I had the fun of putting on a session at College Week called "Decorating on a Shoestring". We had so much fun with this workshop and she told stories of her children and grandchildren bringing her birds nest and how she would "decorate" with them. She was a beautiful, kind and very thoughtful woman. Her pie recipe at the restaurant in Blanchard was one of her famous stories. My how her eyes twinkled. I am honored to have called her a colleague.
