1929 - 2013
Robert Edward Dowdney passed away February 2, 2013, following a long battle with dementia. The son of Robert and Helen (Wolfe) Dowdney, he was born in 1929 in Detroit, Michigan, and retired to Gladwin, Michigan, after living for many years in Redford Township. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Charlene Dowdney, who lovingly cared for him until her death in 2009; and his son Daniel Robert Dowdney. He is survived by his daughter, Carol (Bob Lewis) Rosebrook, his son Michael (Jane) Dowdney, seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Bob was an Army veteran and a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who had an unlimited capacity to tell bad jokes until anyone cracked a smile. He taught his family to be safety conscious, to keep mosquitoes out of the house, and to appreciate British humor. His quiet kindness and dependability will be remembered by the many friends and family he assisted over the years. In recognition of the wonderful supportive care Bob received at Twin Oaks during his years of illness, the family requests that gifts of remembrance be considered to Quality Care Inc. or Ionia Area Hospice.
