1959 - 2013
Randy Dean Crosby, age 54, died Monday, February 11, 2013 at his home in Greenville. He was born January 16, 1959 in Grand Rapids, the son of Richard and Irmengard (Kniessl) Crosby, and grew up in the Alto area. Randy worked at the Kent Education Center for 19 years. He loved children, and had an incredible gift for talking and working with them. He was a true people person with an innate ability to turn a stranger into a friend with a single conversation. He was always willing to help, whether by befriending a child or dancing with the residents at Green Acres at a special event. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and could find the lighter side of any situation. His great passion was fishing, which he enjoyed with many friends at many area lakes. Randy truly had a heart of gold, and was loved by everybody. He will be deeply missed, especially by his wife, Renee; children, Gabrielle Groot and Alex Crosby; step-children, Jennifer (Carlos) Santiago, Timothy (Tasha) Verstrate, Beth Verstrate, and Rebecca Verstrate; grandchildren, Tristan and Adrian Santiago; brothers, Ralph (Michelle) Crosby, Richard (Barbie) Crosby, and Robert (Linda) Crosby; sister, Melva (Rolf) Ludge; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James (Terese) Whitten, Michael (Cathy) Whitten, Thomas (Judy) Whitten, Karen Whitten (Mike Thompson), Lawrence Whitten, and John Whitten; and many other relatives and friends. A memorial service in celebration of Randy's life will be held at 12:00 PM Friday, February 15, 2013 at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with visitation Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions in his honor may be given to the American Cancer Society.

My Dear Renee,
I am so sorry for your loss. I did not know until yesterday. My heart is sad, if I would have known, I would have been there. Joyce & Marcy asked for your address. I asked why? You are a daughter to me.

Renee, I echo the many thoughts of my classmates in sharing what a gift Randy was to the class of '77 and the Forest Hills community at large. It's hard to think of Randy without breaking into a giant smile. :). I guess his gift keeps giving! My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Best wishes, Jayne

Our sincere sympathy to Renee and family. Dave says :What a nice guy. I worked with Randy at KEC and he was a smiler and caring person. He was humble, engaging and talked of his wife and family often. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. May he have a nice lake and good fishing.

Dear Renee and children,
I wanted to take the time to let you know how sorry I am that Randy had to leave this earth as such a young age. I went to FHC with Randy and wanted to share with you a few memories. Randy was the football hunk on campus. Every girl wanted to be his one and only, but he had too much to give so he kept us all tickled pink with just his smile. He was friendly and excepting of everyone. He participated in everything he could, plays, talent shows and senior pranks. Everyone knew and loved him. I know your grief journey will be a challenge but Heaven is a better place.
If you need an some wonderful support, try griefshare.com. I got us through the loss of our oldest son.
Peace be with you and may God wrap his loving arms around you.

Sympathy to Renee and family members, and to new and old friends of Randy. Reading of his "innate ability to turn a stranger into a friend with a single conversation," I can affirm that he even had that ability as a kid. We were 10 years old, and I had just moved to Forest Hills. I didn't know anyone, so I was a little uncomfortable showing up for my first football practice. The minute I got out of Mom's car, Randy walked up and welcomed me. With that single conversation I knew I had a new friend. We were still playing football five years later (1974), at Forest Hills Central High School, on a JV team that went undefeated for the league championship. So I will always remember Randy as a champion, and as my first and oldest friend in Forest Hills.

Renee and family, I'm so sorry to hear of Randy's passing. I was glad to see you both at the FHC 35th reunion for our class of '77. Not realizing this would be the last time a lot of us would see him, makes this all the sadder. I remember you telling me, Renee, that you and Randy were "attached at the hip and did everything together." I can't imagine how much you'll miss him. You were both lucky to find each other, despite how quickly the time went....He was a one of kind guy with a great sense of humor. Losing him as created another hole in our class and hearts. I graduated with Randy, not knowing his birthday was also my birthday. We had much in common even though we didn't know it. that Green Acres you're talking about was the place where I learned piano. Even though we grew up together, graduated, our hearts reunited at the 35th year reunion. On behalf of our Class of '77 we will deeply miss you.
thanks for being such a blessing, and now enj seeing your maker.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family to get through such a difficult time. Randy was one of a kind. I had the great pleasure of working with him at KEC. Randy always made work easier with his easy smile and stories. He often spoke of how much he loved his family...I know he would be mad at me for crying tears right now...but they just don't make them like Randy he was one of a kind.

Our prayers and condolence go out to Randy's wife and children and all the Crosby family. Randy you were always a great fun neighbor and to think we went to school together since 4th grade and as long as I've known you they do not come any kinder. Class of FHC "77" won't be the same without you. Rest In Peace our good friend.
