1922 - 2013
 Carl J. Tower, age 91, passed away at his home in Oakfield Township on Sunday, March 17, 2013. He was born January 30, 1922 in Oakfield Township, the son of Ernest and Louise (Avery) Tower. He proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, and was decorated with two Bronze Stars for his distinguished service. On March 2, 1946, he married the former Kathleen Cunningham in Providence, RI. Carl lived his entire life on the Tower family property, which his ancestors settled in 1839, becoming only the second family to settle in Oakfield Township. He was a lifelong farmer, and also worked for the Kent County Road Commission for 28 years. He was a member the Greenville Church of the Nazarene, the Oakfield Pioneer Heritage Society, and both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen, in 2011; and daughter, Jane Smith. He is survived by his children, Stephen Tower of Greenville, Kathleen Tower of Tucson, AZ, and Martha (Robert) Middlebrook of Rockford; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; son-in-law, Charles Smith of Stanton; sister, Joan (Richard) Sovereign of Sparta; sister-in-law, Helen Fox of Pierce, AZ; and brother-in-law, Bruce Cunningham of Cape Cod, MA. The Tower family would like to especially thank Carls neighbor, Carol Balko for her special care and friendship, and Spectrum Health Hospice for their compassionate care. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with Rev. Timothy R. Deshaw officiating. Military honors will be rendered under the auspices of the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101, Greenville. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be given to the Greenville Church of the Nazarene, Spectrum Health Hospice, or the Oakfield Pioneer Heritage Society.

We send our condolences to the family. Sorry we can't be there. We remember when he was working, he'd plow our dead end road on Angel Lake.It was nice to see a familiar face. God be with you and comfort you.

So sorry for your loss -
Carl will be greatly missed. I have lots of memories of Kate and Carl in my early years at Greenville Ch of Nazarene.
