Marvin H. Cannon Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1920 - 2013

Marvin H. Cannon, age 93, longtime Stanton area resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2013 at Metron of Greenville. He was born February 2, 1920 in his family's namesake Cannonsville, Michigan, the son of Archie and Mary "Mamie" (Swartz) Cannon. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II, serving in Belgium, Germany, and Paris and much of France. He was one of the founding and life members of the American Legion Post 452 in Stanton, where he served as Post Commander for several years. He was a master electrician, and retired as a maintenance supervisor after 37 years of employment at the former Gibson Refrigerator Company. Marvin was a true patriot to his country. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed playing cards, and was a devoted Detroit Tigers fan. He enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren more than life itself. His passing is the end of a wonderful era, and he will be so sadly missed by all, especially his loving wife of 67 years, Doris (Cross); daughters, Jeanne (Tim) Barrett and Phyllis Johnson; grandchildren, Christine (Robert) Francis, Stephen Barrett, and Michael (Sarah) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Jessica Henke, Jenny Henke, Travis Francis, Noah Johnson, Ava Johnson, Dominic Barrett, and Kyle Barrett; sister, Dorothy Neitzel Jensen; special nieces and nephews, Joel and Mary Lou Black, Jerry Black, Marvin and Janice Neitzel, Alden and Sharon Neitzel, and Gordy and Amy Cannon; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bob and Altona Cross and Sheila Smith. He was preceded in death by an infant son; his son-in-law, Michael Johnson; and siblings, Melvin Cannon, Leona Black, Mortimer Cannon, and Margaret Crandall. Memorial services will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the First Congregational Church of Stanton with Pastor Jamey Nichols officiating. PLEASE NOTE CHANGE IN SERVICE TIME. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the service at church. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Congregational Church of Stanton.

Marv was a hard working, wonderful husband, father, grand-father and friend to many. You seldom seen him without his lovely wife, Doris! He will be sadly missed!

Sadly, Stanton has lost a valuable member of its community. Marv will be missed by many. Though our paths didn't cross very often, it was always a pleasure to see him (and Doris) out and about in his elder years. Our sympathy to Doris and the rest of his family.
