1922 - 2013
Roberta Mae Petersen died peacefully at her home early Saturday. She is survived by her son, Dr. Stephen Petersen and was preceded in death by her husband Milo LaVern Petersen. She is survived also by two sisters, Beverly Hoose of Owosso and Phyllis Baer of Phoenix. Originally moving from her native town of Owosso to Greenville to take a position as a Daily News reporter, she met and married her husband Milo here in 1947. She was known to many Greenville-area residents as a public elementary school teacher and administrator. In her retirement from the field of education, she actively enjoyed the companionship of many friends with various of whom she travelled, learned pottery making, swam or walked downtown for morning coffee. In her last days among us living, she was received into the Holy Roman Catholic Church, becoming a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Grand Rapids.
She will be interred in a public ceremony at Rest Haven Memory Gardens at 11:00 a. m. Tuesday, May 7. Friends will be received at her home at 808 Benita Street in Greenville following the interment. Those wishing to offer memorials may do so by contributions to the Cedar Crest School school library. Dr. Petersen requests that no flowers be sent to her home. A funeral Mass will be held at a later date at the Carmelite Monastery in Parnell. After her interment, friends wishing to attend that Mass may call Dr. Petersen to learn the date and time.

Mrs. Peterson was the epitome of excellence in elementary education in Greenville. It is fitting that contributions to her memory enrich a library which will serve many children. My sincere sympathy goes to Steve.
