Dr. J. Allan Ralph

1932 - 2013

Dr. J. Allan Ralph D.D.S. died peacefully on May 27 in his home in the loving care of his family.

Allan was born on January 16, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois to Dorothy (Severance) and James Ralph. As a child growing up, he spent most of his summers with his Aunt Mary, Uncle Bert Miller and Grandmother Severance in South Haven. He decided at an early age that he wanted to live in Michigan.

He married Janet Graf during his senior year at dental school at the University of Illinois. When they were ready to start a practice, they toured Michigan and found Greenville. They moved here in 1960 and raised their family here. He never regretted the decision. He loved Michigan and Greenville. He had a private practice in Greenville and later worked as a dentist for the Department of Corrections. He enjoyed the outdoors, travelling, photography and music, and especially spending time at the family beach house on Lake Michigan. Mostly he loved his family and participating in the many activities they shared.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Nancy Jean and granddaughter, Allison Christine Rajewski. He is survived by his wife of 56 years and their children, Linda and John Rajewski, Laura and Randy Roulier, David and Lisa Ralph and Peter Ralph; grandchildren Jordan (Rajewski) and Jay Fettig, Kelly Roulier, Lauren Rajewski, Erin Roulier, Brooke Rajewski, Anna Ralph, Brian Roulier and Chris Ralph; great-granddaughter Kennedy Fettig; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Richard and Charlene Graf, nieces, a nephew and a cousin Sharon(Russ) Johnson.

Visitation will be 4:00 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 30 at Hurst Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held at the First United Methodist Church where he was a member for 50 years on Friday, May 31 at 11 a.m. Memorial gifts in his honor maybe given to the First United Methodist Church.

We remember Al puttering in his beautiful garden whistling. He was so kind to let our youngest daughter "help" when she was about 4. How we miss his happy whistle. May God bless and comfort the Ralph family.
