Phyllis June Sears-Tisdel Click for Condolences      Printable Version
1925 - 2013

Phyllis June Sears-TisdelMrs. Phyllis June Sears Tisdel, age 88, passed away Wednesday morning, August 7, 2013 at Advocare Assisted Living in Rockford. She was born June 7, 1925 in Solon Township, the daughter of Leon and Marvel (Winegar) Hunter. Phyllis grew up in the rural Rockford and Cedar Springs area and attended Cedar Springs Schools. She married John Sears, Jr. in 1941, and they remained husband and wife until he passed away in 1990. As a family, they went camping, fishing, and boating, and enjoyed traveling out East, West, and to the Upper Peninsula. When fishing, Phyllis had the tendency to catch not only the largest fish but also the most. She worked as a nurses aide at the former Sunshine Hospital in Grand Rapids, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. She volunteered in the Oakfield Fire Departments Ladies Auxiliary and the PTA at Horton School. Mr. and Mrs. Sears held many garage sales, where they sold many antiques on consignment, and Phyllis became an antique expert. After Johns death, she married Mervil Tisdel in 1995 and became a member of Crossroads Wesleyan Church. They enjoyed fishing and life together until his death in 1998. The Sears family would like to especially thank both the staff and residents at Advocare for the compassionate care they provided. Phyllis is survived by her children, Larry (Judye) Sears of Rockford, Terry (Judy) Sears of Rockford, and Debbie (Jim) Koron of Grand Rapids; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; brother, Steve Taft; sister, Tut (Andy) Kohut; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her two husbands and a grandson, William Jones. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Crossroads Wesleyan Church, Rev. Eldon Sanders officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville. Interment will be in Oakfield Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Grace Hospice or Faith Hospice,
