1936 - 2013
James H. Roberts age 77 of Gowen passed away Friday August 16, 2013 at Metron of Greenville. He was born in Sand Lake MI on January 1, 1936 the son of Henry and Etta (Schneider) Roberts. He married Lorraine J. Doxtater in Cedar Springs MI on October 30, 1953. He was employed as a truck driver with Wheeler Transit Mix for many years and then retired from Hi- Grade Materials Company. In retirement he drove for the Lee and Jeff Hansen Farms. Jim enjoyed the out of doors, hunting and activities with clowns. He was a former member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church of Coral. He also served with the US Army.
Preceding him in death were his son James on Nov. 24, 2012, two infant brothers, and sisters, Evelyn, Erma, Velma and Maxine.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Lorraine of Gowen, their children, Debra (Ray) Bigler, Vickey Hockey all of Gowen, Kathleen Roberts of Grand Rapids, Mark (Amy) Roberts of Six Lakes and Edward Roberts of Trufant, 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, sisters, Lorraine Morris and Stella Hansen both of Sand Lake, nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard (Shirley) Shumate of Coral, Alice (Jim) Peckham of Lowell, Arlene Doxtater of Grand Rapids and Raymond Doxtater of Howard City.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday August 20, 2013 at 11 AM from Hurst Funeral Home with Vicar Karen Ressel of Settlement Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Trufant Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions have been suggested to Veterans fund of Irag and Afganistan of America (IAVA) New York Headquarters 292 Madison Ave, 10th Floor New York, NY 10017 (envelopes are available at the funeral home).

Dear Aunt June & family,
