Charles James Linahan age 92 Greenville, formerly of Farmington Hills MI passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Fountain View of Lowell Saturday August 17,2013. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on August 21, 1920 the son of Charles J. and Barbara N. (Nickel) Linahan Sr. Charlie was a graduate of U. of Detroit High and College and was a chemist in Detroit for many years retiring from Mercury Paints. He served his country in the US Army during WW II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater receiving a bronze battle star and 3 overseas service bars. He was a golfer and also enjoyed his volunteer work helping with meals on wheels and the Salvation Army. He was a founding member of St. Fabian Catholic Church in Farmington Hills where he served as an eucharistic minister and as an usher. In retirement to Greenville he was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church.
He married June E. Gunther on October 16,1948 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Detroit and she survives him along with their children, Richard (Tracy) Linahan of Spring Hill, Florida and Kathryn (Charles) Van Hoey of Greenville, grandchildren, Lance, Luke and Lea Linahan of Florida, Jason (Amanda) Van Hoey of Midland, Heather ( Marc) Sutherland of Riverdale, MI, great grandchildren, Camden, Kara, Cade, Adam, Sonja and Taylor, his siblings, Barbara Schmidt of Royal Oak, Rosemary Tikka of Littleton, Colorado, Jack (Jeanette) Linahan of Manistee MI and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday August 28, 2013 at 11 AM from St. Charles Catholic Church Greenville with Rev. Father Michael Cilibraise as celebrant.
A visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be given to the West Michigan Alzheimer Association and Fountain View of Lowell
